NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION
National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) recommends that schools provide 150 minutes of instructional physical education for elementary school children, and 225 minutes for middle and high school students per week for the entire school year.
Statement of Purpose:To teach physical fitness and healthy habits in an exercise rich environment to homeschooled children K-12.
Physical Education is an important part of your child’s learning and wellness. Train For Life incorporates cardiovascular, strength, coordination and flexibility training into educational units. We encourage students to live active lifestyles and build healthy habits. TFL students gain confidence in their physical abilities while developing socialization skills, teamwork essentials and peer friendships.

Susan Kline, TFL Homeschool PE Administrator
Susan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with Physiology Emphasis from the University of Maryland. She has earned her Master’s Degree in Health Science from the George Washington University as well as Physician Assistant Degree. She is certified for personal training through ACE, Yoga Alliance 200hr certification, and has earned a CrossFit Level I Certificate. She is a Tang Soo Do Martial Art Master Susan has been teaching fitness and martial arts in the community for over 20 years. She is a member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD)
Mark Kline, TFL Homeschool Instructor
Mark has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Maryland. He has earned his Master’s Degree in Health Science from the George Washington University as well as Physician Assistant Degree. He has a CrossFit Level I Certificate. Mark is also a Commando Krav Maga level VI instructor and teaches Ladies Self-Defense to the community.
Eric Scuderi, TFL Homeschool Instructor
Eric has been working in the gymnastics, dance and fitness industry for over 15 years. He has taught gymnastics to students from beginner to collegiate level. He is certified in corrective exercise through NASM, TRX Level 2 and P90x certified. Eric earned a CrossFit Level I Certificate. He is a regular fitness instructor at Train For Life.
AVERAGE CLASS SIZE AND PARTICIPATION
TFL Homeschool PE class size is limited to 18. Fitness classes are organized by age group (grades K-5, 6-12). Upon request, TFL is happy to provide a certificate of participation that can be used as documentation for your portfolio. Although grades are not given, the classroom often mirrors that of the credit classes. Expectations for achievement are built into the curriculum – students are expected to take notes, complete homework assignments, and to work independently outside the classroom.
TFL HOME SCHOOL PE OPERATION
Through weekly fitness classes, TFL’s Homeschool PE will provide a developmentally appropriate, instructional program that advances the student’s knowledge and betters his/her health. TFL will include areas of fitness to include: Skillfulness; Biomechanical Principles;Motor Learning Principles; Exercise Physiology; Physical Activity; and Social Psychological Principles. In addition Healthy Tips will be added. TFL supports the fight against childhood obesity and will take part in the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.
